April 7, 2015 – Saint John, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
Saint John Industrial Parks Ltd. will construct a barge terminal facility to serve New Brunswick’s advanced fabrication sector, thanks to investments by the governments of Canada and New Brunswick.
Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament for Saint John, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and the Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick, joined Saint John Industrial Parks Ltd. officials today to make the announcement.
The barge terminal facility will be located in the Spruce Lake Industrial Park. The project includes the construction of an access road, a concrete laydown area and a wharf bulkhead.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, and the Government of New Brunswick, through the province’s strategic infrastructure initiative, are each contributing $3 million towards the project.
Quick Facts:
- Saint John Industrial Parks Ltd. has been developing and managing industrial parks in Saint John since 1991. They currently operate three industrial parks: McAllister, Spruce Lake, and Grandview. Their clients span all sizes and sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, distribution, machining, moving & storage, energy, and environmental services.
- The barge terminal facility will enable oversized manufactured pieces, which are too large to be taken to their destination by road or rail, to be transported by waterways. This creates significant new business opportunities for fabricators; providing access to mega projects in Atlantic Canada and along the US eastern seaboard.
- Today, Spruce Lake Industrial Park is home to 35 companies employing more than 500 people.

- The Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick
“Saint John Industrial Parks Ltd. is thrilled to partner in this infrastructure investment. The barge terminal will be a competitive asset for our existing advanced manufacturing sector tenants, and will attract new tenants to our parks, as they pursue significant contracts, creating real wealth in our community and allowing SJIP to continue to meet its mandate; to grow the City’s tax base and support the retention and creation of New Brunswick jobs.”
- Lois Vincent, President of the Board of Directors Saint John Industrial Parks Ltd.
