April 15, 2015 — Earlton, Ontario — Industry Canada/FedNor
MP Jay Aspin (Nipissing—Timiskaming), on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), announced today an investment to support private sector innovation and enhance economic growth in Northern Ontario.
A repayable FedNor contribution of $482,500 will enable Nor-Arc Steel Fabricators to develop a pilot-scale waste incineration system that will process local waste and capture the thermal energy it produces. Specifically, the funding will help the organization to design, test and create a prototype incineration plant capable of processing up to 20,000 tons of residential waste annually and transform it into green energy. The state-of-the-art technology is intended to offer a waste management solution and supplementary energy source for Canadian cities and municipalities with populations of up to 100,000 people.
