The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is pleased to share a sample of its first quarter highlights (January to March) from its various operations in Winnipeg, including airport, commercial and inland operations. This sampling underscores the CBSA’s commitment to keeping communities safe and ensuring our laws are respected.
On January 22, Winnipeg airport border services officers (BSOs) arrested a man on an outstanding warrant in Ontario for charges including assault, pointing a firearm, and breaking and entering. The man was arrested without incident and turned over to the local Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Also in January, a 44-year-old U.S. man was refused entry for a previous conviction of burglary. The man was seeking entry for work purposes. In March, a 42-year-old U.S. man seeking entry for work purposes in Canada was refused entry for having several criminal convictions including grand larceny, criminal mischief, and driving while under the influence of alcohol. The man returned to the US.
From January to March, BSOs in Winnipeg seized 43 prohibited weapons from 13 seizures. BSOs intercepted a shipment in January that contained three one-handed crossbows with four pistol crossbow bolt packages which can only be used as a pistol crossbow, four switchblades, four stun guns, and six throwing stars. The other weapons seized include brass knuckles, shurikens, butterfly knives, a push dagger and pepper spray.

- Officers refused entry to 21 foreign nationals for criminality or other reasons.
- CBSA enforcement officers in Winnipeg successfully removed two foreign nationals with serious criminality convictions, including sexual assault and fraud, to their countries of citizenship.
