OTTAWA, April 22, 2015 - Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made this statement following several arrests and the laying of charges against nine individuals facing 61 charges, including human trafficking and drug-related offences. These charges followed a six-month investigation, by Toronto Police Service’s Sex Crimes Human Trafficking Enforcement Team, into a Canada-wide human trafficking network.
“I would like to recognize the initiative and dedication shown by members of the Toronto Police Service in uncovering and disrupting this alleged human trafficking network. Our Government remains committed to the global fight against human trafficking and these arrests will help ensure that Canadians are safe from despicable crimes that prey on our most vulnerable citizens, especially women and children, for sexual exploitation.”
