Oral Health Month provides an opportunity for Canadians of all ages to think about ways to keep their smiles healthy and bright. Good oral health is a team effort between you and your oral health care providers. It starts with a personal commitment to brush and floss your teeth dai ly and to see your dentist regularly.
Our Government recognizes that healthy teeth and gums are important to your appearance, sense of well-being, and overall health. To help Canadians maintain a healthy smile, we support ongoing prenatal and early childhood programming which help to foster healthy eating and good oral health habits.
One of our recent projects involves a partnership that will help improve oral health and overall health for communities in Canada's North. Investments through the Territorial Health Investment Fund, will support health promotion and access to health services to help address high rates of dental diseases among children.
Maintaining the health of your mouth and teeth is important at all stages of life. As an adult, you can protect your oral health by leading a healthy lifestyle and understanding the link between your oral health and overall health. I would like to encourage you to commit to following the 4 steps to good oral health and to learn the signs and symptoms of oral cancer.
As Minister of Health, I would like to mark this year's Oral Health Month by recognizing the important contribution Canada's dentists, dental hygienists and other oral health professionals make towards protecting the health of all Canadians.
Sincerely,
The Honourable Rona Ambrose
Minister of Health
