Prime Minister Stephen Harper announces the awarding of a contract for the construction and lease of the new Public Service Pay Centre in Miramichi, New Brunswick.
Miramichi, New Brusnwick - 2 April 2015
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the awarding of a contract for the construction and lease of the new Public Service Pay Centre in Miramichi, New Brunswick, following an open, fair and competitive procurement process. This fulfills a commitment made by the Government in 2010 to establish a public service pay centre in Miramichi. The Prime Minister was joined by Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and Tilly O’Neill Gordon, Member of Parliament for Miramichi, New Brunswick.
Consolidating the public service’s pay system and services into one facility and modernizing technology to replace outdated and labour-intensive information systems will save Canadian taxpayers millions of dollars, create hundreds of high-quality jobs and promote economic growth in Miramichi. By December 2015, the Public Service Pay Centre will deliver pay services to 46 departments and agencies.
A joint venture will design and construct the building and then lease it to the Government of Canada for a 20-year period. There is an option for the Government to purchase the building for $1 at the conclusion of the lease. It is expected that construction will begin this summer with occupancy scheduled for late 2018.
