Prime Minister Stephen Harper participates in a business roundtable meeting with Canadian CEOs on the margins of the Summit of the Americas.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced several projects aimed at strengthening economic growth across Latin America and the Caribbean. He made the announcement in advance of the Summit of the Americas taking place from April 10 to 11, 2015, in Panama City, Panama.
Increasing economic opportunity is one of the pillars of Canada’s Strategy for Engagement in the Americas. The projects announced today focus on critical areas such as rural and agricultural development, extractive sector governance and small-scale mining, and sustainable food production.
The Prime Minister made the announcement prior to participating in a roundtable meeting with several CEOs attending the CEO Summit of the Americas, which is taking place on the margins of the Summit of the Americas. As part of the discussion, the Prime Minister will highlight the vast opportunities that exist in Latin America and the Caribbean, and discuss the importance of the Canadian private sector’s impact and influence in creating greater growth in the region. He will also speak about Canada’s robust economic fundamentals, its proactive job creation strategy, and actions being taken to ensure that Canada continues to occupy a strong global economic position, including the most ambitious free trade agenda in Canadian history, which now boasts agreements with eight countries in the Americas.
