Economic Action Plan 2015 created a new dedicated infrastructure fund to improve existing community infrastructure in all regions of the country, as part of the Government of Canada’s coordinated approach to celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. Canada 150 programming will aim to make the most of government investments and generate economic spin-offs for communities of all sizes across the country.
Under the theme “Giving back to Canada,” the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program supports projects that rehabilitate, renovate and expand existing community infrastructure. The program is being delivered by the regional development agencies across Canada.In the North funding recipients may receive up to 75 percent of total eligible costs. CanNor’s contribution cannot exceed $500,000 per project.
CanNor is delivering the program in the North with an allocation of $6.4 million over two years, beginning April 1, 2016.
Applications for projects in the territories can be submitted starting May 15, 2015. Eligible applicants are invited to consult the application form online at www.cannor.gc.ca.
The program supports the rehabilitation, renovation and expansion of existing community infrastructure that is non-commercial in nature and provides public benefits. Examples of eligible projects could include improving accessibility to a community centre, renovations to cultural and recreational facilities, repairs to local roads and airports or connectivity upgrades.
