Kerry Ellen Buck (BA Hons, University of Western Ontario; LLB, BCL, McGill University) joined External Affairs and International Trade Canada in 1991. She most recently served as political director and assistant deputy minister for International Security and Political Affairs. She has also served in various assistant deputy minister positions, where she was responsible for Afghanistan, Africa, the Maghreb, Latin America and the Caribbean, and international security programs. At Headquarters, she has served in a number of senior positions, including federal-provincial relations, the Middle East, human rights and economic and trade law. She was posted to the Canadian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1994 to 1996. Outside the department, she had assignments at the Privy Council Office and the Canadian Human Rights Commission. She is married and has a son and three step-daughters. Ms. Buck replaces Yves Brodeur.
