Gregory Francis Thompson, P.C., M.P. (BA [History and Political Science], St. Thomas University; BA [Education], St. Thomas University), has enjoyed a long career as a high school teacher, businessman and financial planner, member of Parliament and federal Cabinet minister. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1988 as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and served six terms as a member of Parliament representing the province of New Brunswick. During his time in Parliament, he served as the critic of Human Resources Development, the Treasury Board, Public Accounts and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. In 2006, he was appointed minister of veterans affairs, where he served until 2010.
