Member of Parliament Dick Harris Announces Celebrate Canada Support for seven organizations
May 29, 2015 – Prince George, British Columbia – Department of Canadian Heritage
Seven organizations in the Central and Northern Interior of British Columbia got a boost today when Dick Harris, Member of Parliament (Cariboo—Prince George), announced a total of $10,766 in funding to support National Aboriginal Day, Canadian Multicultural Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, and Canada Day celebrations. Mr. Harris made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
This investment, provided through the Celebrate Canada program, will enable these organizations to offer their residents engaging cultural programming, as well as opportunities to learn about Canada’s history and heritage. In 2014, the Government of Canada invested in more than 1,600 projects and events across the country under the auspices of the Celebrate Canada program.
“Our Government is pleased to support these various celebrations in Central and Northern British Columbia that strengthen our communities and increase awareness about our history and heritage. These events reaffirm our pride in our values and our accomplishments.”
- The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“These kinds of celebrations not only bring our communities together to showcase local artists and give us opportunities to learn about our rich history, they also contribute to a sense of pride and belonging for all Canadians. I invite all British Columbians to take part.”
- Dick Harris, Member of Parliament (Cariboo—Prince George)
“I want to thank Canadian Heritage and our MP Dick Harris for their ongoing support of Quesnel’s Canada Day celebrations. This free, family-oriented event celebrates the diversity of our local community with events like musical performances by local talent, and a taste of different cultures and foods. It is truly a day full of fun that has something for everyone – and of course, it’s topped off with Canada Day cupcakes!”
- Karilyn Bolton, Deputy City Manager, City of Quesnel
