May 14, 2015 – Montreal – National Film Board of Canada (NFB)
An entertaining portrait of Danny Williams and the province he led for seven years, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) feature documentary Danny is available online for VOD/DTO starting today, at the NFB’s newly expanded multiplatform portal, NFB.ca.
Co-directed by Justin Simms and William D. MacGillivray, Danny follows Williams throughout his seven historic years in office as Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, battling Ottawa and Big Oil alike to ensure that the province received a fair share of its natural resources, and in the process transforming Newfoundland and Labrador from a “have not” into a “have” province.
Featuring interviews with such Newfoundland celebrities as Andy Jones and Greg Malone, as well as Williams’ mom, the charismatic and savvy Teresita Galway Williams, Danny weaves a great story about Williams and the timely coincidence of his birth in 1949—the very year Newfoundland joined Canada. “A rousing and inspiring character study of the Premier and his province alike” (Patrick Mullen, POV Magazine), rich with back-room anecdotes and behind-the-scenes details, Danny is an inside look at how Williams became the most popular—and controversial—Canadian politician of his era.
Danny is produced and executive produced for the NFB by Annette Clarke.
First launched in 2009, NFB.ca is now the VOD destination for the finest in NFB as well as independent Canadian and international films, along with a growing collection of over 3,000 titles available for free streaming.
