On May 15, 2015, Ronald Richard McCauley, an inmate from the medium security unit at Mission Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell.
Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.
At the time of his death, Mr. McCauley, 63 years of age, had been serving an indeterminate sentence for attempted murder and several sexual offences since April 26, 1983.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
