“I extend my most sincere gratitude to all Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families for their dedication and sacrifice. We celebrate our men and women in uniform for their contribution to our nation with today’s 9th annual Walk/Run in Red, this weekend’s CAF Recognition Program, and next week’s Canadian Armed Forces Day.
“The annual Walk/Run in Red sees close to 3,500 military personnel and civilian employees of the Department of National Defence running or walking along Ottawa’s Rideau Canal wearing red shirts to demonstrate support to CAF members and their families.
“The annual CAF Recognition Program honours nine CAF members recognized for their commitment to the military and their community. Deserving members are welcomed to Ottawa in acknowledgement of accomplishments such as saving lives, inspiring young people through Canadian Cadet Organizations, and providing humanitarian support overseas.
“The CAF Day is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of June, and provides an opportunity for Canadians to recognize the men and women of the CAF for their contributions towards peace and security at home and abroad.
“These activities provide an opportunity to thank our soldiers, sailors, and aviators for their defence of Canada and its sovereignty, assistance to fellow citizens in need, and contribution to global security.
“I encourage all Canadians to recognize and celebrate their Canadian Armed Forces.”
