Airport upgrades will support business growth in Central and Northern Labrador
May 29, 2015 – Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
The Goose Bay Airport Corporation will construct a Mobile Work Force Distribution Centre, thanks in part to an investment from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), announced federal funding of more than $2 million for the project.
Construction of the 11,000 square-foot Centre is scheduled to begin by mid-June and it will be built adjacent and connected to the existing terminal building. The new facility will mainly be used for the efficient distribution of mobile workforces for large hydroelectric, mining, and research and development projects currently taking place, and envisioned to take place in Labrador in the future.
In addition to regularly scheduled traffic, ongoing major capital projects in Labrador position Happy Valley-Goose Bay as the hub for the movement of the non-resident workforce, with 3,000 charter passengers a month predicted over the next four years. The new Centre will accommodate transient workers without conflicting with normal scheduled traffic, which will continue to use the main terminal facility.
Quick Facts:
- Government of Canada funding of $2,050,000 was provided through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund.

- The Mobile Work Force Distribution Centre will enable the Central Labrador region to respond immediately in support of major projects, which is critical to ensuring that local communities and businesses maximize the economic development potential associated with the planning and construction cycles associated with those projects.
