Project made possible thanks to New Building Canada Plan
May 21, 2015 – Moncton, New Brunswick – Infrastructure Canada
Robert Goguen, Member of Parliament for Moncton–Riverview–Dieppe and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, was joined today by Monique LeBlanc, Member of the Legislature for Moncton East, and George LeBlanc, Mayor of the City of Moncton, to announce funding of up to $2.7 million for the City of Moncton's Transit Fleet Replacement project under the New Building Canada Plan.
The project entails purchasing 11, forty-foot, heavy-duty transit buses to replace aging vehicles. The new buses are fully accessible and include up-to-date safety features such as impact plates to protect against accidents, single windshields with no blind spots, and larger ramp platforms for wheelchairs.
These vehicles will improve the reliability of the bus fleet in the Moncton area and significantly improve access to public transit for people with disabilities. This will help attract new users and contribute to ridership growth.
The New Building Canada Plan is the largest and longest federal infrastructure plan in Canada's history.
This unprecedented commitment is providing $53 billion to support provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure between 2014 and 2024.
Over this ten-year period, New Brunswick will benefit from approximately $866 million in dedicated federal funding, including almost $394 million under the New Building Canada Fund.
