Harper Government Investment Supports Manufacturing and Economic Growth in the Parry Sound Region

The Honourable Tony Clement, MP for Parry–Sound Muskoka and President of the Treasury Board, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), announced today an investment to help a local business innovate, become more competitive, expand into new markets and support jobs in the Parry Sound region.

Thanks to a repayable contribution of $822,323 provided through FedNor's Targeted Manufacturing Initiative for Northern Ontario, Crofters Food Ltd. will upgrade its Seguin facility and modernize its production line and packaging system. The improvements will help the company increase its output capacity by 2.5 million cases annually, boost sales and exports to national and international markets, reduce its operational costs and energy consumption, and create 10 full-time local jobs.

Based in Seguin, Ontario, Crofters Food Ltd. is a certified organic manufacturing business that produces high-end specialty fruit spreads, jams, preserves and jellies. The company currently employs 39 people and produces approximately 1 million cases of products each year.
Through its Targeted Manufacturing Initiative for Northern Ontario, FedNor supports the development and growth of the region's manufacturing sector by helping companies to assess the need for productivity improvements and modernize their operations.
Since 2006, through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested $351 million in support of more than 1,675 projects. These investments have supported more than 22,700 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
