Harper Government Invests to Enhance Agri-food Industry in the Muskoka Region

The Honourable Tony Clement, MP for Parry–Sound Muskoka and President of the Treasury Board, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), announced today an investment to support jobs, growth and prosperity in Northern Ontario.

The FedNor investment of $39,000 will enable Muskoka North Good Food Co-operative to establish an agri-food product and distribution centre in the Muskoka region. Specifically, the funding will be used to hire a youth intern for a one-year period and support research and development costs to create the new facility.

Quick Facts

Muskoka North Food Co-operative is a registered not-for profit organization whose purpose is to build capacity in the local and Northern Ontario food systems, and in turn, increase food security and create a vibrant regional food economy.
The funding announced today is provided through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation.
Since 2006, through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested $343 million in support of more than 1,645 projects. These investments have supported more than 21,500 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
