For Immediate Release
May 15, 2015 – Abbotsford, B.C. – Public Works and Government Services Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, is pleased to announce that Public Works and Government Services Canada has awarded a contract, valued at $480,812, to NovaBioRubber Green Technologies Inc. This contract is awarded under the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP).
NovaBioRubber, a Canadian-owned company, develops sustainable technologies to manufacture products such as natural rubber, latex and inulin. The company is partnered with 10 Abbotsford greenhouses in which rubber bearing plants such as Russian dandelions and Scorzonera tau-saghyz are grown. NovaBioRubber is becoming a major player in Canada’s future as a producer of environmentally friendly rubber. The cutting-edge extraction process from rubber-bearing plants is ecological, efficient and cost-effective. As NovaBioRubber continues to improve its technology, it is expected that these innovations will deliver additional opportunities for Abbotsford farmers to produce environmentally-sustainable products.
The BCIP helps Canadian businesses get their world-leading goods and services from the lab to the marketplace, creating jobs and prosperity for hard-working Canadians and their families. This program is just one of the many tools the Government of Canada has available to support small and medium-sized enterprises across Canada.
