The Quebec Chief Government Whip and MNA for Huntingdon, Stéphane Billette, is pleased to be on hand for inauguration of the new water treatment facilities in the Municipality of Sainte-Barbe and to announce a $7,372,209 increase in government assistance to the Municipality of Sainte-Barbe under the Quebec Municipal Infrastructure Program (PIQM), from $17,098,800 to $24,471,009. This amount is augmented by a contribution of $614,127 under the Federal Gas Tax Fund and Quebec's Contribution (TECQ).
The project entailed the installation of a drinking water supply system, including water collection, treatment and distribution facilities, as well as installation of a treatment system for the collection, interception and treatment of wastewater.
The work carried out included: construction of a filtration plant with an intake in Lac Saint-François and the installation of an aerated pond type treatment station, consisting of a series of four ponds with an outfall pipe at the Saint-Louis outlet and a main pumping station.
Owing to changes in the work following detailed engineering studies, the government's financial assistance was increased to $24,471,009. The maximum eligible cost is now set at $30,075,631, under component 1.4 of the PIQM. The Municipality contributed $5,604,622 to the project.
