Local arena increasing its capacity as a multipurpose venue for larger events
The Jack Byrne Arena will increase its capacity as a multipurpose facility, thanks in part to an investment from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), announced federal government funding of $75,600 for the North East Avalon Arena Regional Board Inc. in support of the project.
New equipment was purchased to enable the facility to maximize its potential, including ice flooring, upgrades to the kitchen equipment, ceiling panels and glass lifters. The improvements have enabled the arena to meet the need in the region for venues that can accommodate 1,200 - 2,000 people, such as the recent East Coast Music Awards gala.
This project will also benefit the North East Avalon area by enabling the arena to further expand its programming into the trade show and concert industry. The overall initiative strengthens the community's infrastructure by improving its ability to host large community events, which will in turn bring greater economic opportunities to businesses in the region.
