May 29, 2015 - Ottawa, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced the appointment of David L. Emerson as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, a national not-for-profit organization, was established in 1985 by the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada Act. The Foundation functions as a knowledge broker, bringing together people and knowledge to provide current and comprehensive research, analysis and information on Canada’s Asia Pacific relations. It promotes dialogue on economic, security, political and social issues, helping to influence public policy and foster informed decision making in the Canadian public, private and non-governmental sectors. In Canada and across the Pacific, the Foundation strengthens networks and enhances the links among the policy, business and research communities in areas relating to Canada’s ties with the Asia Pacific region. The Foundation reports to Parliament through the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is governed by a board of Directors consisting of a chairperson, up to four directors appointed by the Governor in Council, up to 18 additional directors appointed by the board, and the foundation’s president. Mr. Emerson will be assuming the role of chairman of the Board as of July 1, 2015, replacing John H. McArthur. Minister Nicholson thanks Mr. McArthur for his important contribution as chair of the Foundation since 2006.
