May 20, 2015 - Ottawa, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:
“Canada welcomes the signing of a peace agreement in Bamako, Mali, on May 15, 2015, between the Government of Mali and the majority of actors involved in the peace process.
“This agreement reflects the long, difficult discussions that took place between the stakeholders, which were possible because of the commitment of the Government of Mali and the key role played by Algeria.
“Canada is asking those who have not yet signed the agreement to do so as quickly as possible and to remain involved in the dialogue.
“Canada is concerned by the ongoing reports of violence, and hopes that this agreement leads to lasting peace in Mali, which will strengthen a climate that is conducive to economic development for all citizens.
“Canada will continue to support Mali and Malians on their path toward peace.”
