The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today concluded a successful visit to Ukraine, where he met with his counterpart, Pavlo Klimkin, as well as President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
During these meetings, Minister Nicholson reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to Ukraine, especially in the face of Russian aggression, and its support for Ukraine’s economic and democratic reforms.
Minister Nicholson visited a military hospital and met Ukrainian soldiers injured in the eastern part of the country. He also had the opportunity to speak with representatives of civil society organizations that are receiving Canadian funding.
Minister Nicholson will next head to Antalya, Turkey, where he will meet with his counterparts at the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting and discuss major international issues affecting global peace and security.
