The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development and Minister for the Arctic Council today met with members of the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The discussion followed a major announcement made earlier in the day concerning a renewed partnership between the Government of Canada, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated and the Government of Nunavut for the long term prosperity of Nunavut.
Before the Chamber of Commerce, the Ministers highlighted a balanced budget, family tax cuts and benefits as well as many more new measures to help build a stronger Canada.
They also spoke of the Government of Canada’s new measures through Economic Action Plan 2015 for Aboriginal peoples and for Northerners:
- Investing to secure new market access for Canadian seal products.
- Investing in Aboriginal skills and training which will create even more opportunities for Aboriginal youth
- Contributing to measures enhancing the safety of marine transportation in the Arctic.
- Continuing to support meteorological and navigational warning services in the Arctic.
- Renewing support for the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan starting in 2016-2017.
