May 12, 2015 – Montreal – National Film Board of Canada
The interactive seven-part documentary web series Do Not Track premieres its first animated episode today in its fourth instalment, entitled The Spy In My Pocket.
Directed by Brett Gaylor and written and hosted by Zineb Dryef, The Spy in My Pocket features animation from Darren Pasemko and was inspired by informational films of the sixties as well as Sesame Street animations, with cut-out animation sequences created on Adobe Suite.
In The Spy in My Pocket, the focus shifts to what happens to all the data gathered by smartphones—where it goes, and how it’s used. The episode also features interviews with web experts Harlo Holmes, software developer for the Guardian Project, and Rand Hindi, data scientist and founder of Snips.
It’s the second collaboration between Pasemko and Gaylor, who worked together on Gaylor’s award-winning 2008 NFB co-produced documentary RiP! A Remix Manifesto.
