The Parks Canada Youth Ambassador Program will welcome its next two youth ambassadors in May of 2015. For the fourth year, a Canada-wide search was held to find the two young Canadians who will build on the legacy of the initial three years of the Youth Ambassador Program. This program continues to put into action the commitment made by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in July 2011 to start a national youth outreach program to connect youth with Canada’s treasured places.
What is it all about?
The Youth Ambassador Program offers two young Canadians an incredible opportunity to build their skills and abilities through full-time summer employment with Parks Canada. Through personal interactions with youth at special events and in our national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas, they will share their experiences, passion and interest in nature, history, and culture with their peers across the country. Via social media Canadians can tag along on their amazing adventures and discover Parks Canada’s awesome places, ranging from parks close to major urban centres that offer fun weekend getaways for adventure and relaxation, to some of the more remote locations that are off the beaten path and allow them to seek the extraordinary.
Reaching Canada’s youth with a special partner
To recruit the youth ambassadors, Parks Canada works in collaboration with Global Vision – a non-profit organization with over 20 years of experience in championing the enterprising spirit of young Canadians in the promotion of Canadian industry and culture. They have an established recruitment strategy that reaches into communities across Canada using multiple venues and platforms to create awareness of opportunities for Canadian youth to be engaged in their communities.
What can the ambassadors expect this year?
This year’s youth ambassadors will build on the work done by the previous ambassadors to inspire and encourage their generation to get out and create their own experiences and adventures in the incredible places in their own country. They will start their year in May 2015. As full-time summer student employees, the youth ambassadors will have the mission to connect young adults to the places that represent the very essence of being Canadian. The two selected candidates will also work part-time throughout the school year, continuing to reach Canada’s young adults through post-secondary education institutions.
