May 1st, 2015 – Municipality of Rhineland, Manitoba – Infrastructure Canada
Residents of the community of Rosetown, in the Municipality of Rhineland, will soon be able to walk or bike along Road 3 NW without having to share the road with cars, trucks and farming equipment.
Thanks in part to the federal Gas Tax Fund a new asphalt walking path will be constructed in the coming months. It will be approximately 1.2 km long by 1.8 meters wide. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of this coming summer.
"This new walking path will offer residents of Rosetown a safer route for their recreational activities, whether walking, running or biking. These types of investments enhance our local communities and remind us all of the importance of getting outside and spending time being active."
- The Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State (Social Development) and Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar
"Projects like walking paths are good for people, the community and the environment, because they encourage individuals to choose a healthier means of transportation as they walk, jog or stroll through their community. These paths keep them safe from traffic, and offer a more secure surface for people of all ages, particularly those with mobility issues."
- Honourable Drew Caldwell, Minister for Municipal Government, Province of Manitoba
"Our council commends the Rosetown community for taking the initiative to build a "walking path" through a busy agribusiness village. A pathway encourages an active, safe and healthier life style and social interaction. It is an excellent way to build community."
