Media are invited to attend the national Battle of the Atlantic parade and ceremony with His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs Pierre Lemieux to commemorate the sacrifices made by thousands of Canadians who fought so valiantly in the North Atlantic.
WHEN: May 3, 2015. Ceremonial activities begin at 10:10 a.m. Media are requested to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for set up.
WHERE: National War Memorial
WHAT: Battle of the Atlantic parade and ceremony.
The Battle of the Atlantic, commemorated each year on the first Sunday in May, officially ended on Victory-Europe Day on May 8, 1945. It was the longest, largest, and the most complex campaign of the Second World War.
