Project possible thanks to federal Gas Tax Fund
May 22, 2015 – Sanova, British Columbia– Infrastructure Canada
Residents of Savona, along with representatives from the federal, provincial and municipal governments, today celebrated the grand opening of the community’s renewed park dock and boat launch.
The boat launch is one of a limited number of public boat accesses to Kamloops Lake. Tourism is a major economic driver in Savona and the new dock and boat launch are vital components in maintaining the community’s economy and links to the region.
This project was made possible thanks to a contribution of $170,000 through the federal Gas Tax Fund, $35,729 from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and $13,000 from the Savona Community Association. The total cost of the project was $218,729.
“Recreational amenities support active, healthy lifestyles and they are important community assets which bring residents together. Our Government is proud to have supported this improvement project, which will help residents and visitors reach Kamloops Lake safely. Through the federal Gas Tax Fund, we continue to deliver long-term infrastructure funding to municipalities for their local priorities, as we focus on creating jobs, promoting growth, and building strong, prosperous communities across Canada.”
Cathy McLeod

“With British Columbia’s beautiful natural surroundings and spectacular weather, water activities are a popular choice for both residents and visitors. I would like to acknowledge the generous financial support we have received from the federal Gas Tax Fund, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the Savona Community Association for the renewal of this dock and boat launch which protects an important asset in the community.”
Todd Stone
MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson
“This is an excellent example of co-operation between all levels of government and the Savona Community Association to create public infrastructure. The refurbished boat launch provides much-needed access to Kamloops Lake for all the boating public and visitors and promotes the increased use of the lake as well as the scenic Savona Community Park.”
John Ranta

“The federal Gas Tax Fund is providing investments that address the diverse needs and interests of B.C. communities. I am pleased to see the improvement of recreational and tourist amenities for the residents of Savona through this upgrade to Savona’s dock and boat launch."
