Phuc Doan Nguyen and Luis Alberto Simas arrested
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today the arrests of Phuc Doan Nguyen and Luis Alberto Simas who were featured on the “Wanted by the CBSA” list.
Nguyen is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for multiple convictions of possession of property obtained by crime and theft under $5,000. Additionally, he has been convicted of breaking and entering with intent to commit an indictable offence, discharging a firearm, and possession of instruments for breaking into coin devices. He was arrested by the Toronto Immigration Task Force (ITF) after a 20-month investigation.
Simas, who was arrested by the Toronto Police Service at a private residence in Toronto, is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality following a conviction for robbery. He has also been convicted of assault and breaking and entering.
Quick Facts
- On May 11, 2015, members of the Toronto ITF arrested Nguyen in the Greater Toronto Area.
- On May 17, officers of the Toronto Police Service arrested Simas in Toronto.
- The Toronto ITF is a joint forces operation comprising personnel from the CBSA and the RCMP who work together to apprehend high-risk migrant fugitives.
- To date, as a result of the “Wanted by the CBSA” program, Canadians have assisted in locating 62 individuals in Canada, of which 53 have been removed. Additionally, 18 other individuals were located abroad.
- Members of the public are reminded that they should not take action to apprehend the individuals listed on the CBSA Web site. Any information on the whereabouts of these wanted individuals should be reported to the CBSA Border Watch Toll-free Line at 1-888-502-9060.
