Government of Canada supports internationally recognized opera festival

Opera on the Avalon Inc. is producing the 7th annual "Opera on the Avalon" event in St. John's, thanks in part to an investment from the Government of Canada. Senator Fabian Manning, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), today announced federal funding of almost $99,000 for the project.
Opera on the Avalon is an internationally recognized opera festival which brings together music industry professionals, including clinicians, artists, conductors, directors and talent agents. The event includes professional performances and training sessions, as well as business and industry workshops for future events and productions. Upcoming productions this month include Carousel at the Holy Heart Theatre from June 11 - 13 and Turn of the Screw, which is playing at several venues from June 17-21.
Opera on the Avalon Inc. is using the federal funding for marketing, venue rental, and audio/visual expenses. The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is also supporting the organization's efforts to improve productivity and long-term sustainability through the purchase of production management software and highly specialized equipment.
