The Government of Canada and a private partner, Signature on the St. Lawrence Group, have entered into a project agreement to complete the new Champlain Bridge Corridor project.
The Government of Canada announced that the total cost of the project would be $4.239 billion.
From this amount, the agreement between the Government of Canada and the Signature on the St. Lawrence Group, valued at $3.977 billion, covers the construction period, which will begin in June 2015 and end in fall 2019, as well as a 30 year operation period.
The project agreement includes the design, construction, financing, operation, maintenance and rehabilitation of the corridor project, which includes the new Champlain Bridge, the new Île-des-Sœurs Bridge and the reconstruction and widening of the federal portion of Highway 15.
The cost breakdown, not including applicable taxes, is as follows:
- $2,246.7M for construction
- $754.2M for operation, maintenance and rehabilitation
- $954.2M for financing
- $22.2M for an independent engineer
- $66.7M for project management by the Government of Canada
- $91.9M for planning and development
- $103.2M for property acquisition.
