June 19, 2015 — Hamilton — Hamilton’s Gala Bakery will receive Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s Refugee Employment Award. Hiring newcomers since 2002, this local business is being recognized for its leadership role in improving the employment outcomes of refugees in the City of Hamilton.
The Gala Bakery is being awarded for its efforts through Wesley Urban Ministries to recruit and provide employment opportunities that help refugees find work and integrate into Canadian life.
Recipients are nominated for this national award by service provider organizations who have witnessed the success of these employers who bring refugees into the labour market, helping them integrate into society and contribute to the Canadian economy.
Gala Bakery was nominated by Wesley Urban Ministries. Other Winners across Canada include the Safeway Operations, Sobeys Inc., nominated by Calgary Catholic Immigration Services, and Dexter Construction of Halifax NS, nominated by Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS).
