June 17, 2015 – Ottawa-Gatineau – Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is proud that its work to modernize northern telecommunications will be recognized with a 2015 Public Service Award of Excellence. A ceremony will be held for all 2015 recipients next fall in Ottawa.
CRTC employees will receive an award in the category of Excellence in Policy for their work on modernizing northern telecommunications. For the first time in its history, the CRTC travelled north of the Arctic Circle to hold a public hearing in Inuvik. The regulatory policy that resulted from this proceeding set the foundation to modernize Northwestel’s network, which will result in improved broadband Internet services and the provision of advanced mobile wireless services.
Through this initiative, Canadians living in the North will have access to affordable telecommunications services, ensuring that they can participate in the digital economy. The ability to access services such as health care, education, government services and banking is vital to all Canadians.
