On June 23, 2015, Richard Gagnon, an inmate from the medium security unit Beaver Creek Institution was found unresponsive in his cell.
Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.
At the time of his death, Mr. Gagnon, 66 years-old, had been serving a sentence of 2 years, 1 month and 0 days for assault causing bodily harm and 2 counts of robbery since Aug. 19, 2014.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
