On June 1, 2015, Christopher Robert Roy, an inmate at Matsqui Institution, was found unresponsive in his cell.
Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 pm on June 3, 2015.
At the time of his death, Mr, Roy, 38 years old, had been serving a sentence of two years for Failure to Comply with a Probation Order, Failure to Comply with Condition of Undertaking, and Break and Enter and Commit Indictable Offence since November 26, 2013.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
