June 25, 2015 – Ottawa, ON – Transport Canada
The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, encourages all Canadians to mark the Day of the Seafarer, which takes place every year on June 25, by showing their support to all those who work on ships in Canada and worldwide.
On this special day, we celebrate those men and women who have made their living on the sea, enduring the risks and personal costs they bear while at their jobs, knowing that what they are doing is appreciated by their families and all those who benefit from their work.
Today, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is celebrating the fifth annual global Day of the Seafarer, focusing on careers at sea. This year’s campaign will highlight the many rich and fulfilling career opportunities at sea and ashore, and create a picture of seafaring as a viable, attractive and exciting career option.
Anyone wishing to share their story on social media is encouraged to use the hashtag: #CareeratSea. To participate in the IMO’s Day of the Seafarer 2015 campaign, go to Day of the Seafarer.
