The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, today announced funding of $2.2 million for Sysgaz Inc. to support the development of a technology that can transform methane gas collected from landfills into renewable liquefied natural gas (R-LNG). The funding was provided though Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC)’s SD Tech Fund™.

Sysgaz has developed an all-in-one solution that transforms multiple methane gas sources (landfill gas, biogas and natural gas) into renewable liquefied natural gas (R-LNG). Sysgaz’s unique solution integrates three proprietary technologies into a single production plant. These technologies are an innovative landfill gas capture and measurement system, a gas upgrading system and a compact and energy-efficient cryogenic system that, when combined, produce R-LNG. This all-in-one solution could become an important source of green energy in industrial and transport sectors. When compared with diesel, the use of R-LNG in these sectors could enable a 90 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. This project will validate both the all-in-one solution used to produce R-LNG and a fuel-distribution scenario with heavy-duty trucks to demonstrate overall benefits in the transport sector.
