Project made possible by the New Building Canada Plan
June 26, 2015 – Moncton, New Brunswick – Infrastructure Canada
Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, was joined today by the Honourable Victor Boudreau, New Brunswick Minister of Health, Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, and Minister responsible for Strategic Program Review, and Shawn Crossman, Deputy Mayor of Moncton, to announce funding of up to $8 million under the New Building Canada Plan for the Storm Sewer Renewal and Improvement Program in Moncton.
This project consists of extensive work to improve the storm sewer system. A dedicated storm-sewer relief system will be installed where sanitary and storm sewers are currently combined; deteriorating sewers will be replaced; sewer capacity will be increased in certain sections; and a major drain relief system will be installed to reduce the risk of flooding. Once complete, the project will significantly improve the reliability of the city's sewer system and help protect residences from property damage in flood-prone areas.
The New Building Canada Plan is the largest and longest federal infrastructure plan in Canada's history. This unprecedented commitment is providing $53 billion to support provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure, between 2014 and 2024.
Over this ten-year period, New Brunswick will benefit from approximately $866 million in dedicated federal funding, including almost $394 million under the New Building Canada Fund.
"Our Government's support for public infrastructure has never been stronger. We are pleased to work with the New Brunswick Government to approve projects under the New Building Canada Fund, to ensure that infrastructure funding continues to flow in New Brunswick as we focus on creating jobs, promoting growth, and building strong, prosperous communities across Canada. We are proud to invest in Storm Sewer Renewal and Improvement Program, which will focus on reducing the risk of flooding in flood-prone areas in the Moncton area."
