June 25, 2015 – Ottawa, ON – Office of the Minister of the Environment, Parks Canada
Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament for Ottawa—Orléans, on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced infrastructure investments totalling $480,000 for Laurier House National Historic Site, located in Ottawa.
This investment will provide a replacement Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system to upgrade control of temperature and humidity within the house, which is required for long term preservation of the extensive heritage collection and to maintain the integrity of the historic building itself. This will ensure that the condition of the home and its irreplaceable artefacts is preserved for future generations.
Laurier House National Historic Site has an extensive collection of over 10,000 artefacts that have direct links to Prime Ministers Sir Wilfrid Laurier and the Rt. Hon. William Lyon Mackenzie King. The collection is valued in excess of $25 million, and many artefacts are considered irreplaceable.
