Point Pelee National Park helps the Municipality establish butterfly and bird habitat during Environment Week.
June 2, 2015 – Leamington, Ontario – Parks Canada
Dave Van Kesteren, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent—Essex, on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today highlighted the work of Parks Canada and the Municipality of Leamington to restore important habitat for birds and butterflies, including monarchs, during Environment Week (May 30 - June 6, 2015).
Starting at 10:00 a.m. on June 2nd, they will be planting native grasses, wildflowers and milkweed in eight large gardens along a 0.5 km stretch of walking trail in Leamington with help from community volunteers. What better way to connect with nature than to help provide critical food and habitat for migrating birds and butterflies where they can rest and refuel before continuing on their long journey!
Conservation and restoration initiatives provide amazing opportunities for Canadians to connect with nature, and for Parks Canada to work with community stakeholders like the Municipality of Leamington.
