Shippagan-based company expands its operations in Losier Settlement
June 22, 2015 – Shippagan – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Jiffy Products (NB) Ltd, a manufacturer of peat pots, pellets, plastic trays and other horticulture-related products, is starting the 2015 season with the opening of its new mix plant and an additional 200 acres of bog to harvest, thanks to support from the federal government.
The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), announced today that the Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, provided a repayable contribution of $500,000 for this project.
The project involved building a new, 12,800 square foot mix plant on the company’s bog in Losier Settlement, and equipping it with a new peat screening line, a mix line, a big bale wrapper, as well as material handling equipment. Two vacuum harvesters and one harrower were also purchased to enable the company to extract the peat from the additional 200 acres of bog land.
Now that the project is complete, Jiffy Products (NB) Ltd is fully-equipped to provide quality mixes, giving their customers the convenient option of purchasing their pots and the mix to fill them, from the same supplier.
Quick Facts:
- Jiffy Products (NB) Ltd has evolved from a small plant operating four machines in 1976 to a multi-operation plant that makes plastic products and value-added products from peat, and harvests its own peat to supply the factory.
- The company, which is part of the larger Jiffy Group organization that is headquartered in Norway, also operates a state-of-the-art machine shop to fabricate its own equipment.
- In 2014, Jiffy Products (NB) Ltd received a $48,000 investment through ACOA’s Business Development Program to hire a continuous improvement coordinator to help modify processes so it could quickly adapt its production line to meet a variety of differing clients’ needs without losing time, productivity or quality.
Quotes:
“Our Government understands that the long-term prosperity of many Canadian rural communities depends largely on small and medium-sized enterprises. That is why we are pleased to support projects like this one that has helped Jiffy Products increase its peat harvesting capacity so it can expand into new markets, all while creating jobs and generating new economic growth for this region.”

“This new plant based in Losier Settlement will solidify our position in the North American horticultural market. This addition will enable us to expand our portfolio of available products and seize new business opportunities. It is clear that this project would not have been possible without the support of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the province of New Brunswick through the Northern Economic Development Fund.”
