Project approved under the Small Communities Fund
June 24, 2015 – Sarnia, Ontario– Infrastructure Canada
Lambton College students, professors and researchers will benefit from the construction of the Centre for Health Education and Sustainable Care (CHESC) thanks to joint funding from the Governments of Canada and Ontario through the Small Communities Fund.
Lambton College's proposed Centre for Health Education and Sustainable Care (CHESC) will unite students, faculty, and researchers under one roof. This innovative facility will feature multi-functional laboratories, collaborative meeting spaces, and large interactive learning studios, bringing Lambton College to the forefront of health education and research, and contributing to the long-term viability of the College.
The $1-billion Small Communities Fund provides funding for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs. Canada and Ontario will each provide $272 million to support projects in communities across the province with fewer than 100,000 residents. This funding will help address local priorities, supporting job creation and economic growth, thus sustaining a high quality of life in small communities across Ontario for years to come.
“We are pleased to invest in projects like Lambton College's new centre that will benefit our community by improving much needed local infrastructure. Our Government's commitment to municipalities, big and small, has never been stronger. Through the New Building Canada Plan Small Communities Fund we are investing in priority infrastructure projects that have a strong impact on the quality of life of Ontario's residents while helping job creation and economic growth.”
Patricia Davidson
Member of Parliament of Sarnia—Lambton, on behalf of the HonourableDenis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec
“Today's investment will translate into better health care for the residents of Sarnia. It's part of the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario's history and supported by a number of initiatives, including unlocking the value of public assets to help support investments in transit, transportation and other priority infrastructure projects. These investments will help connect regions, develop new economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for Ontarians in cities, towns, and rural and remote communities all across the province.”
Deb Matthews
Deputy Premier, President of the Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy
“The Centre for Health Education & Sustainable Care will support advances in simulation technology for training purposes, inter-professional education and health-related research opportunities. The building will also provide students with tools needed to continually investigate best practice in sustainable health care, specifically for citizens with chronic care issues from rural, small-urban and First Nations areas. This is more than an investment in Lambton College, it's an investment in health education in Sarnia-Lambton.”
