June 4, 2015 – Yellowhead County, Alberta – Department of Canadian Heritage
Fifteen organizations will receive combined funding totalling $33,300 for National Aboriginal Day, Multiculturalism Day and Canada Day celebrations in villages, towns and cities across West-Central Alberta. This support has been provided through the Celebrate Canada program.
Member of Parliament Jim Eglinski (Yellowhead) made this announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
“Local festivals and celebrations, like these ones, help build momentum in the lead‑up to the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017—a pivotal milestone in our nationhood that is set to be an exceptional year for Canadians and our country. Canadians are encouraged to participle in local, regional and national events and initiatives and contribute ideas towards this important event.”
- The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“Our Government is committed to supporting local anniversaries and celebrations that provide us with an opportunity to honour our heritage, reflect on our past and look ahead to our future. I extend my best wishes and thanks to all of the organizers and volunteers for their continued efforts in making each and every one of these celebrations a success.”
- Jim Eglinski, Member of Parliament (Yellowhead)
“Every year our community looks forward to celebrating our country and the fantastic diversity we enjoy during our Canada Day and National Aboriginal Day festivities. Canadian Heritage continues to support our efforts to provide free, fun and pride-filled events for the residents of Whitecourt. With this support, we have been able to make our events bigger, more meaningful and the perfect place to spend the day with friends and family. ”
