DRUMMONDVILLE, QUEBEC – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the region of Quebec, on behalf of The Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, today announced an investment of $3.7 million for renovations at the Drummondville and St-Hyacinthe armouries, in support of the Canadian Armed Forces. This project will also help support the local economy and job creation.
This federal infrastructure project includes $2.2 million for upgrades and repairs at St-Hyacinthe’s armoury and $1.5 million for the Drummondville armoury. The main work to be executed at these two sites includes repairs to the building envelope, paving, interior and exterior painting and other repairs. These renovations will take place over the next two years.
Both sites are home to 6 Battalion, Royal 22e Regiment, a Reserve infantry unit of the Canadian Armed Forces. The headquarters of the battalion is located in St-Hyacinthe, while B Company and unit’s band are located at the Drummondville armoury. The battalion’s Reserve soldiers come from the Montérégie and Central Quebec regions.
