The National Energy Board (NEB) reminds Canadians that the public consultation on the transparency of emergency management information will close at the end of day, Thursday, June 25th.
On April 27, NEB Chair, Peter Watson launched the public consultation process to gather input into the type and the level of detail Canadians feel is appropriate to include in pipeline company emergency management information.
All NEB-regulated pipeline companies are required to develop and maintain an emergency management program to anticipate, prevent, mitigate, and manage public safety and environmental protection in the event of an emergency. The NEB assesses company emergency management programs through reviews, emergency response exercises, company compliance meetings, and emergency management system audits.
The NEB encourages all stakeholders to participate in the emergency management public consultation. At its conclusion, the NEB will respond in a meaningful and measured way that takes into account public input and what is in the public interest.
