The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement of a Final Investment Decision by PNW LNG Ltd. on their proposed Pacific Northwest LNG facility:
“I am pleased with the confidence Pacific NorthWest LNG Ltd. has shown in Canada as an excellent place to invest with their positive Final Investment Decision.
“I am participating in meetings in Vancouver with the Province of British Columbia, including with PNW LNG Ltd. Our government is encouraging the proponent to complete their application to allow the review process to move forward.
“Liquefied natural gas has the potential to diversify our energy markets and product offering, creating jobs and economic growth for Canadians.
“Projects will only move forward if proven safe for Canadians and safe for the environment following a rigorous, science- and fact-based independent regulatory review.
“Our plan for Responsible Resource Development has reduced taxes, and our country currently has the lowest overall tax rate on new business investment in the G7. For example, our government recently extended export licences for LNG projects, and increased the Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance from 8% to 30%. We have achieved this while enhancing environmental protection and engagement of First Nations.”
