Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria. The leaders met in the context of the G-7 Summit in Germany.
Prime Minister Harper congratulated President Buhari on his recent election victory.
The leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Canada and Nigeria, as well as President Buhari’s efforts to address the threat caused by Boko Haram. The leaders also raised concern with the link between Boko Haram and ISIS. Prime Minister Harper reiterated continued support to confront this escalating global threat.
Prime Minister Harper strongly condemned the deplorable actions committed by this barbaric jihadist terrorist group to innocent civilians – notably to women and children.
