Transfer of a portion of the revenue from the federal Gas Tax Fund and Government of Quebec contribution
June 18, 2015 – Laval, Quebec – Infrastructure Canada
The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, and Francine Charbonneau, Minister of Families, Seniors and Anti-Bullying and Minister responsible for the Laval region, on behalf of Robert Poëti, Quebec Minister of Transport, are pleased to announce that the Société de transport de Laval will receive $89,760 funded under the Programme d'aide aux immobilisations en transport en commun [public transit capital assistance program] of Quebec's Société de financement des infrastructures locales (SOFIL) and by the Department of Transport. The funding for SOFIL's program and the Department of Transport's participation comes from the federal Gas Tax Fund and a Quebec Government contribution.
The Société de transport de Laval (STL) will use the financial assistance announced today for a project to replace the infrastructure servicing truck. The aim of the STL's project is to acquire a new utility truck and adapt it to meet transit system maintenance and engineering needs by adding on-board equipment.
The main purpose of the Programme d'aide aux immobilisations en transport administered by the Société de financement des infrastructures locales (SOFIL) is to help transportation authorities carry out capital assistance projects that are required for the organization and operation of public transit facilities. It is aimed at promoting the maintenance, enhancement and development of public transit equipment and infrastructure.
This financial assistance is drawn from the budget of $35,241,521 allocated to the STL through the federal Gas Tax Fund and the Government of Quebec contribution for the 2014–2019 period.
